My Inspiration and Me
When I gave birth to my son Tom in October 2007 I became a typically neurotic first time mum - did he eat enough, did he poo enough, was he sleeping enough - the list went on. But with my extremely fractured sleep and 'mummy brains' I could often not remember what time he last fed or how long for, or whether that poo was this morning or yesterday. So I started writing down every event in a notepad that I carried around with me.
When I met up with my antenatal group I discovered that all 7 of us were doing the same thing. Most of us continued for a month or so until we felt more confident, and were getting used to the new experience of being mums.
Once I started introducing solid foods however I started writing everything down again, particularly as Tom's sleep patterns also changed (waking more in the night was the reason I began weaning). It was then that I designed a daily diary sheet. I found it so easy to fill in each day (using a highlighter and a pen), compare days and discern patterns that I wished I'd had it from the beginning. I began investigating ways of producing it into a notebook, and Baby's Day was born!
Tom is now two years old, and I can't believe how quickly time has gone. Sometimes I look back over the diary sheets and think "I wish he slept that much in the day now, I would get so much done" (oh how we forget!) and sometimes it is "Thank goodness he doesn't wake at 3 in the morning anymore!" Either way it is wonderful to remember my demanding (and, of course, enormous fun) toddler as the tiny baby he was such a short time ago.
I hope that the Baby's Day notebook (subtitle - Inspired by Tom) will be useful to many of the new parents that are created every day. Remember, the most important thing is to enjoy your baby's days, and I hope my notebook will help take at least some of the stress away.
